Do I need a credit card to use sayit?

No card for the free plan, ever. A card or UPI is only needed if you upgrade to Pro or Max, or start the optional Max free trial, which is a real trial.

No — you don't need a credit card to use sayit. The free plan runs directly in your browser: press record, speak, and get scored, with no signup and no card at any point. If you later create a free account for the monthly allowance, that's still card-free. A card (or UPI mandate in India) only enters the picture the moment you actively choose to pay for Pro or Max, including sayit's optional free trial.

30-second version: Free plan = no card, ever. Upgrading to Pro or Max = a card at checkout, standard for any subscription. sayit's free trial is a real trial (a small refundable authorisation, then it auto-charges the Max price unless you cancel) — not a "give us your card and we promise not to use it" trick.

The one place a card genuinely does show up

If sayit offers a free trial in your account, it works the way the product frames it honestly: you authorise a card or UPI mandate up front (a small refundable hold — ₹5 in India), you get Max access immediately, and the subscription starts charging the regular Max price automatically when the trial period ends, unless you cancel first. That is what makes it a real trial rather than a a time-boxed demo — the mandate is genuine from day one, and sayit doesn't pretend otherwise anywhere in the flow.

Where this is straightforward

  • The free plan never asks for payment details at any step — you can use it indefinitely.
  • Paid checkout is a normal, one-time card entry through the payment processor; sayit says plainly it never sees your full card number.
  • Cancelling a paid plan or a trial is available any time from your account settings, in a click, per the pricing FAQ.

Where it's worth reading twice

  • If a trial is active on your account, forgetting to cancel means the regular subscription price is charged automatically — that's the deal, stated up front, not a hidden catch.
  • The small authorisation hold on a trial is real money moving, briefly, even though it's refunded — some people prefer to avoid that entirely by staying on the plain free plan instead of a trial.

Who needs to think about this

If you just want to see whether sayit's scoring is useful, you can do that today with zero payment information involved. If you're tempted by a Max trial specifically to unlock 25 hours a month and full exam practice for a short period, go in knowing it behaves like a real subscription from the first authorisation, not a no-strings sample. If you'd rather test the paid tiers' extra features without any billing risk at all, the safer sequence is to use the free plan first, decide deliberately that you want to pay, and go straight to a regular Pro or Max subscription rather than the trial — the end result (a card on file, billed monthly) is the same either way, just without the "did I remember to cancel in time" step.
