How sayit handles your data, plainly. Your voice is analyzed on your device and never uploaded.

Last updated: June 2026

The short version

sayit is built privacy-first. The whole point of an offline coachis that the listening happens on your own device. Your voice and recordings stay with you, and we never upload them to score them. We keep only what we genuinely need to run your account and improve the app, we ask before we measure anything, and we don't sell your data to anyone.

  • Your voice is analyzed on your device. Raw audio never leaves it.
  • We collect the minimum: an email only if you choose to make an account.
  • Analytics are off until you say yes. No selling, ever.

This page is written in plain English to be genuinely readable. It describes how the product is designed to work; it's not legal advice.

1. What we collect

We try to collect as little as possible. In practice that means:

  • Account details apply only if you create an account. That's an email address and a password (stored hashed, never in plain text). You can use sayit without an account.
  • Usage analytics: basic, aggregated information about how features are used, collected only with your cookie consent. If you decline, we don't measure you.
  • No raw audio: your recordings are analyzed on your device and are never transmitted to our servers as part of normal use.

2. Your voice & recordings

This is the part people care about most, so we'll be specific. When you practice, the speech recognition and pronunciation scoring run locally, on your device. The audio you record is stored on your device so you can replay it and watch your progress over time.

Because those recordings live with you, you stay in control of them. You can replay, re-record, or delete any recording at any time from inside the app, and clearing your data removes them completely.

3. How we use information

We use the little we collect for clear, limited purposes:

  • To run your account: signing you in, syncing your settings, and keeping your progress where you left it.
  • To keep sayit working and safe: diagnosing crashes, preventing abuse, and fixing the rough edges.
  • To improve the product: understanding, in aggregate, which lessons help, but only when you've allowed analytics.

We don't use your information to build advertising profiles, and we never use your voice recordings for any of this.

4. Cookies & analytics

Essential cookies keep you signed in and remember your preferences; these are needed for the app to function. Analytics cookies are optional and stay off until you opt in; you can change your mind whenever you like. We explain each category, and let you manage your choices, on our cookies page.

5. Data sharing

We don't sell your data, and we don't share it for anyone else's marketing. The only outside parties that ever touch it are a small set of service providers that help us operate, for example, hosting, secure payment processing for paid plans, and (if you consent) analytics. They may only handle data on our instructions, for these purposes, and nothing else. If the law ever requires disclosure, we'll limit it to what's strictly necessary.

6. Your rights

Whatever data you've given us is yours. You can:

  • Accessit: see what's tied to your account.
  • Export it: download a copy in a portable format.
  • Delete it: remove your account and the data we hold for it.

Most of this lives right in the app's settings; export and account deletion are a tap away. Prefer to ask us directly? Email hello@sayit.app and we'll take care of it.

7. Data retention & security

We keep account data only for as long as your account is active, plus a short window afterwards for backups and legal obligations. When you delete your account, we remove your data from our live systems and let it age out of backups. Recordings stay on your device until you remove them.

On the security side, connections are encrypted in transit, passwords are hashed, and access is limited to the people and systems that need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we design to collect less so there's less at risk.

8. Children's privacy

sayit is made for teen and adult learners. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region). When sayit is used in a classroom, the school or teacher is responsible for the appropriate consents. And because voice analysis stays on device, there's far less personal data in play to begin with. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

As sayit grows, this policy may change. When it does, we'll update the date at the top, and for anything significant we'll give you a clear heads-up in the app before it takes effect. We won't quietly start doing something you wouldn't expect.

10. Contact

Questions about your privacy, or this policy? A real person reads every note. Email us at hello@sayit.app or use the contact page.

Still have questions?

If anything here is unclear, we'd rather you ask than wonder. We'll explain it in plain words.
