Your voice recording is private in the ways that matter most: it's uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed only to analyse and score it, never sold or shared, and sayit doesn't keep the raw audio around long-term once your scores are saved. You stay in control — replay, re-record, or delete any recording at any time, export your data, or delete your whole account. There is exactly one place your recording could be used more broadly, and sayit is explicit about it: model-improvement training, which is a setting you control.
30-second version: Encrypted upload, feedback-only processing, never sold, deletable anytime. The one nuance: sayit may use recordings to improve its speech models — if you sign up from the EU, UK or Switzerland that's an explicit opt-in choice at signup; elsewhere it starts on by default, and you can turn it off anytime in Settings → Privacy & data. Public "Share" links are a separate, opt-in action — nothing is published unless you press Share yourself.
The model-training setting, plainly
This is the detail worth reading twice, because sayit puts it front and center rather than burying it: your recordings and their analysis metadata may be retained and used to improve the speech models that power scoring, but only while that setting is on for your account. EU, UK and Swiss sign-ups choose explicitly at signup; everywhere else it defaults on. Turning it off stops any future use for training — recordings already folded into a trained model can't be individually pulled back out, but sayit will honour deletion requests for what it still holds and stop using your data going forward.

Where the "Share" feature fits in
Nothing you practise is published anywhere unless you specifically press Share. A shared page carries your score, the text, per-word target-versus-actual IPA, and — unless you untick "Include my recording" — the audio itself. It carries no name and no email, but anyone with the link can open it without an account, so treat the link itself as something you're choosing to hand out, not a secret.
Where sayit is straightforward about limits
- It doesn't publicly name its specific hosting vendors or their regions, for security reasons — if you need that for a compliance review, sayit says to contact them directly.
- Data does move internationally as part of running the service, under standard safeguards (Standard Contractual Clauses and UK equivalents).
- Deleting your account removes your personal data from live systems and lets it age out of routine backups, keeping only what the law requires (like billing records).
