Is there a sayit extension for Raycast?

A dedicated sayit extension for Raycast is coming soon, not yet available in the Raycast Store — but the core workflow it's built around already works today, because it's just a launcher over a link that already exists. Select a sentence anywhere on your Mac, and that same link opens sayit's recorder with the line already loaded, ready to record.

30-second version: The planned extension will be a launcher and a stats window: a command to send selected text straight into the recorder, a word-of-the-day lookup, and a streak check, all without leaving the command bar. Raycast itself has no microphone access, so recording and scoring always happen in the web app — the extension's job is getting you there fast, not replacing it. Until it ships, the underlying link already works and can be wired into a Raycast Script Command yourself.

What will the extension actually do once it ships?

Four things, all built around getting you into a take quickly rather than replacing the web app. "Practise this text" sends whatever you've selected straight to the recorder with that line loaded. "Word of the day" surfaces the word, its IPA, and a one-line definition directly in the command bar. "Streak" shows your current streak and your last take's score without opening anything else. "Quick record" hands off to the web recorder, because Raycast has no microphone access of its own — recording and scoring were always going to happen in the browser regardless of how you got there.

Why can't Raycast record and score directly?

Because Raycast, as a command-bar launcher, doesn't have microphone access — it's not built for capturing audio. The extension's actual job is speed of access: getting a selected sentence or a quick stat in front of you without switching context, then handing off to the web app for anything that needs a microphone. That's a deliberate scope, not a missing feature — the recording and scoring pipeline is the same one the web app and the browser extension already use, and there's no reason to duplicate it.

Can I actually use this workflow before the extension ships?

Yes. The link the extension will eventually use is already live: opening sayit.cipher.academy/practice?text=… with any sentence opens the recorder with that line pre-loaded, no extension required. If you're comfortable setting up a Raycast Script Command yourself, you can wire that link in today and get the "select text, jump straight to the recorder" workflow well before the packaged extension exists.

What won't it do?

It won't record or score anything itself — that stays in the browser, by design, since that's where the microphone and the full scoring pipeline live. It's a launcher and a glance-view, not a parallel version of the app.

Is this the same kind of extension as the Chrome one?

Not quite, and the difference is instructive. The browser extension can record and score entirely on its own, because a Chrome extension genuinely has microphone access inside the browser it runs in. Raycast is a different kind of surface — a system-level command launcher, not a browser — so it was never going to have that same access. The planned Raycast extension is deliberately scoped around what a command launcher is actually good at: fast access and a quick glance at your stats, with the microphone-dependent work handed off to where it already works well.
