Your recording is uploaded securely and processed in the cloud to run the analysis that scores it, then the result comes back to you. sayit is a hosted service, not a fully local, on-device tool — scoring needs the same models on every take, so the audio goes to sayit's servers to be analyzed rather than being processed entirely on your phone or laptop.
30-second version: Recordings are processed in the cloud specifically to generate your scoring and feedback, kept for as long as your account is active, and deletable by you at any time — individually, or entirely by closing your account. Recordings may optionally help improve sayit's speech models: in the EU, UK, and Switzerland that's a choice you make at sign-up, elsewhere it starts on by default, and it's always adjustable in Settings regardless of region. Your data is never sold.
Is any part of the scoring done on my own device?
Recording itself happens on your device — your browser or phone captures the audio locally. The actual scoring — phoneme recognition, alignment, everything that turns raw audio into per-word verdicts and IPA — runs on sayit's servers after the recording is uploaded. That's true across every surface: the web app, the browser extension, and the planned iPhone app all send audio to be processed the same way, because the models doing the scoring are large enough that running them consistently and well needs server-grade compute.
What does sayit actually collect, beyond the audio itself?
As little as it can get away with to run your account: your email, via a secure sign-in flow, and whatever you choose to practice. If you set a password, it's stored only as a salted hash — never in plain text, never recoverable by anyone at sayit, including support.
Can my recordings be used for anything besides scoring my own results?
Only with a choice you control. Recordings may optionally be used to help improve and train sayit's speech models. In the EU, UK, and Switzerland, that's a decision you make explicitly at sign-up. Elsewhere, it starts on by default — but it's adjustable at any time in Settings, in either case, so the choice is always yours regardless of where you signed up from.
How long does sayit keep my recordings?
For as long as your account is active. Deleting an individual recording removes it from sayit's live systems. Deleting your account entirely removes your data along with it. Nothing about recordings history is built to outlast your own decision to remove it.
Does sayit sell my data, or share it with advertisers?
No — recordings and account data are never sold, and there are no ads in the product to begin with. Analytics cookies stay off until you explicitly consent to them; separate from that, sayit's own servers count aggregate visits to public pages without setting a cookie at all, which is a lower bar than consent-gated tracking, not a workaround for it.
