Answer it yourself first

Read it afterwards for the vocabulary and the shape, not to memorise the sentences.The building I want to describe is an old cotton mill about twenty minutes from my flat, which has been converted into offices and a library. From the outside it is enormous and plain, four storeys of dark brick with rows of tall arched windows, and it has the proportions of a building that was designed to be useful rather than admired. What makes it remarkable is the inside. The main hall still has the original iron columns and the roof beams are exposed, and because the windows run the whole height of the wall, the light in the afternoon comes right across the floor. I find it beautiful for a reason I have only recently been able to put into words. Nothing about it was decorative. Every element is there because the machines needed it, the light, the height, the ventilation, and the beauty is a by-product of solving a problem properly. Buildings that try to be beautiful often are not. This one was not trying at all. I take people there when they visit, and about half of them cannot see it at all, which I have stopped arguing about.
